Math 6

BJU Press
This course includes foundational skills in numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and problem-solving.  The use of decimals, fractions, and integers is emphasized.   Mathematical strategies are modeled, practiced, and reinforced.  Skills transfer is encouraged through the use of problem-solving exercises. Weekly skill sheets are a component of this course. Open to grade 6.

Pre-Algebra

BJU Press
This course is designed to prepare students with a foundation of algebraic skills.  Topics covered within this course are integers, fractions, variables, expressions, equations, inequalities, and exponents.  Students also work with ratios, percents, and geometric figures.  Weekly skill sheets are a component of this course. Open to grade 7.  (The math department and administration may make special considerations for accelerated 6th-grade students. Only students who receive a final grade of 97% or higher in 5th-grade math, score in the 90th percentile or higher and at a high level in each subcategory of the Iowa Flex math assessment, and are able to pass the first and second-semester 6th-grade math final exams with an 85% or better will be considered.)

Algebra 1

BJU Press
This course covers the four fundamental operations of arithmetic from the standpoint of algebra. It will strongly emphasize solving equations and inequalities, as well as factoring polynomials.  Students will graph lines and study their slopes and intercepts.  Other topics covered within this course are exponents, systems of equations, functions, and probability.  This course frequently applies the fundamental algebraic concepts learned to solve real-life word problems. Weekly skill sheets are a component of this course.  Open to grades 8, 9. (The math department and administration may make special considerations for accelerated 7th-grade students.  Only students who receive a final grade of 97% or better in 6th-grade math, score in the 90th percentile or higher and at a high level in each subcategory of the Iowa Flex math assessment, and are able to pass the first and second-semester final exams for Pre-Algebra with an 85% or better will be considered.)
